lyrics

Dust on the Wind

Don’t talk to me about heartache- I’ve seen it first hand.
For more than 25 years I’ve lived on the land.
Suicide season is here but that’s not on my mind- just yet.
It hasn’t rained for more than a year and there’s nothing I can do about that.

Man at the Bank says “Times are tough for us all.”
But I don’t think he understands what tough is at all.
Try watching your stock die, and the fires, and your crops they all fail,
My Grand-daddy he built this house and now I’ve got to sell.

I find so much time to think while
I stare at the sky
My dreams are blowing away
Like dust on the wind.

Real Estate Man he says “Joe, I know this will hurt.”
“But I’ve got a buyer who’ll pay a twelfth of what you’re worth.”
“Maybe take this chance and get out while you can,
Because each week from now will be less, and less again.”

I find so much time to think while
I stare at the sky
My dreams are blowing away
Like dust on the wind.

So I swallowed my pride, sold up and we moved into town.
Now I work for the City cuttin’ grass and blowin’ leaves around.
I come home at night with a lunch box and a hat in my hand
And the house it is quiet and now I understand:
Suicide season is here to stay.

I find so much time to think while
I stare at the sky
My dreams are blowing away
Like dust on the wind.
Never comin’ back again.

about

Dave Wright & The Midnight Electric Melbourne, Australia

Singer/songwriter/bandleader Dave Wright is after one thing: A perfect 4-minute pop song.
When he puts pen to paper and pick to guitar strings, however, the Melburnian-by-way-of-Colac knocks out epics and ravers and boozers about girls, cars, Australia, mariticide, Diggers, truckers, sadness, sickness, drunks, heartbroken mothers, angry fathers, desperate sons … and death. Lots of death. ... more
